The City of Amiens is currently constructing a number of important and complex projects in line with an ambitious development timetable. In addition to this, the city has spent over ten years on a far-reaching programme for the improvement of its public spaces.
A hypercentre is required for the heart of the future Amiens – a space appropriate to the scale of the conurbation and of this “Euroregion”.
The objective of this competition was to enable the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) District to restate its symbolic function while also reestablishing a strategic sense of centrality.
Beyond the proposal for improving the public spaces and the establishment of new architectural principles the team also developed a project of true urban recomposition as a means of creating a living, federating space for the heart of the City of Amiens.
