TEXT_Previously seen as forced ruptures in the urban grain, elements of transport infrastructure are today more likely to be understood as vectors for the redevelopment and reorganisation of cities. The urban design project for Châteaucreux station seeks to establish a complete multimodal hub:
- TGV station (Saint-Etienne is 2h40 from Paris) and first TER station in France (Saint-Etienne is 40 minutes from Lyon), terminus of the new tramway line from the city centre, new terminus for the shuttle buses from the car parks as well as city buses and the regional buses which serve the entire department.
The complex is also designed as a support for the development of a tertiary hub:
- Châteaucreux South has the potential for the development of 100,000 to 200,000m² of surface area of tertiary uses with the potential for a second development phase to the north of the tracks....
And, as a vector for the reorganisation of the entire district:
- Reduction of the impact of these ruptures: simplification of the jumble of railway lines, creation of a double-sided and transversal station, recreation of the Châteaucreux South district and reurbanisation of the Châteaucreux North district between the city centre and the hitherto isolated “soleil” district.
